Monologue

White

I want a white dress.
White and pure.
And white.
I want a white husband and a white house. I want everything white.

I want to live under the glacier.
With no kids and no problems.
Only two of us.
He will bring us fish and I will clean our little igloo.

We will live so far.
No one will know what we are doing. My husband and I.
White and naked.
Pure.
White bodies on the white snow.

I want a Polish bus driver for a husband. I want him to take me
by my tongue and lead me
through the tangled streets
of Breiðholt, Kópavogur and Árbær.
Streets which names I cannot pronounce.
We will save money and build a house in Poland. We will buy food in Bónus,
furniture in Góði hirðirinn,
clothes at Kolaportið.
We will go to church.
A Polish church in Iceland.

I want to marry an Icelandic man. He will take me to Kringlan.
I will clean hotel floors,
serve coffee all day long.
I will change Stræto at Mjóddin at seven am, to get downtown to a fancy café
to make your latte.
All day long.
Changing the bedsheets under your body. Cleaning your floors.
Wiping your kids.
Serving you breakfast, brunch, lunch, snack, dinner and evening drink.
Driving you home.
Safe.

I want to be safe. Protected. Loved.

I want a new life and only good memories. The smell of cherries.
My grandmother’s garden.
Pickled cucumbers.

Warmth of the kitchen stove.
Silly childhood games.
One two three, your turn!
The warm dust. Jarðaberjasaft.
Her hands, so old, wrinkled, fragile. Góða ferð, amma.
